Most people don’t really think about the water pipes in their walls until something goes wrong. Sometimes it starts with a faint, almost irritating sound at night—like someone tapping very softly from the other side—or a patch on the floor that seems wetter each time you pass by. Some homes in Singapore, especially the older ones or those renovated many times, carry layers of pipework that have already done their fair share of service. When these lines begin to fail, it’s not just a matter of tightening a joint; the whole run may already be tired.
When our technician comes by, he usually doesn’t jump straight into cutting or replacing. He’ll look around a bit, run his hand along the pipe, sometimes even squat down to check the angle of the fittings. It’s a habit picked up over years—pipes tell their own stories if you slow down enough. After he figures out how far the problem has travelled, then comes the actual repiping, whether PVC, copper, or stainless steel. Some sections come out easy, some resist a little.
By the time the new line is fitted and the water runs steady again, the house somehow feels lighter, as if a small worry that was hiding in the walls has finally settled.
